PAWS is here to serve the Teton Valley Community by offering animal shelter services: adoption/fostering, reunification of lost pets, accepting surrendered pets, plus spay/neuter and veterinary assistance. We are dedicated to providing shelter and care for homeless pets until permanent homes can be found. We rely entirely on donations from our community to cover all veterinary, training and operational expenses.

  • PAWS is an open-admission shelter serving the Teton Valley Community. Services include adoption, fostering, reunification of lost pets, accepting surrendered pets, plus spray/neuter and veterinary assistance. PAWS accepts owner surrendered pets from Teton County, ID residents by appointment only. Once your appointment is scheduled, please bring a valid form of ID and your pet's vet records

    Relinquishment Fees

    Teton County, ID, un-altered: $200
    Teton County, ID, altered: $100
    Out of County, altered: $200
    Out of County, unaltered: $300

     

    *We accept Out of County Owner Surrenders on a case-by-case basis.
    *These fees may be waived or discounted per our Shelter Managements discretion on a case-by-case basis.

    If you would like to request to surrender your animal to our Shelter, please fill out the following form and our Shelter staff will contact you. FILLING OUT THIS FORM DOES NOT GUARANTEE WE CAN TAKE YOUR PET.

    Please note, once you have surrendered your pet you give up your right to, and ownership of the pet.

  • Stray or loose cats that are brought to the Shelter will be held for 3 days from the date the cat arrives. Stray or loose dogs that are brought to the the Shelter will be held for 5 days from the date the dog arrives.

    If owner does not come to retrieve their pet after the holding period, the pet becomes property of PAWS and will be evaluated, vetted, and put up for adoption. Adoptions are final.

  • If you are missing a pet, please contact PAWS to find out if they are at the shelter. 

    You will need to show a photo ID when reclaiming you pet and proof of ownership. You can reclaim your pet during our public hours, or call us to make an appointment.

    Reunification fees are based on the length of your pet's stay and medical care given will in-shelter (if needed).

    Reunification Fees:
    Day of reunification: $20

    No vaccines administered or medical care given: $35/night

    Medical care given: $35/night plus total amount of the vet bill.

    Vaccines given: $35/night plus $50.
    Idaho State law allows us to vaccinate all incoming animals to protect the safety and health of our shelter animals and staff.

Fostering is a great way to get to know a pet or to spend time with a pet in need. Fostering is critical to acclimating our pets to loving homes and to pair them with great people -- for a short term or a lifetime!

SHELTER FAQ

  • PAWS accepts pets from Teton County, ID residents as a first priority. On occasion, if we have space, we work with regional shelters if they are facing overcrowding and accept pets on a case-by-case basis.

  • Residents of Teton County, WY and Teton County, ID and Star Valley, WY can apply for assistance from PAWS.

  • Check for identification and contact the owner. If the collar only has a Rabies tag, call the vet who issued the tag to help identify the owner. All the local vet offices have the ability to scan for a microchip.

    Post the pet as FOUND on the Teton Valley Pets (Lost & Found) Facebook page.

    If you cannot identify the pet, please bring them to the Shelter.

  • PAWS has no authority to pick up loose or stray animals. If you need assistance, please call the Teton County Idaho Sheriff's Department at 208-354-2323

  • Post your pet as missing on the Teton Valley Pets (Lost and Found) Facebook page. Be sure to include your contact information, your pet’s photo, gender, age, breed, general demeanor, and where they were last seen. Update the post to keep information current.

     

    Call the Shelter at 208-354-3499.

    Leave a description of your pet: name, breed, sex, age, last known location, and any distinguishing marks. We scan every pet that comes to the Shelter for a microchip and try to contact owners to inform them that their pet is here. 


    You can also email all of this information, plus a picture of your missing pet to Shelter@pawshelpspets.org.

  • Idaho State law allows us to vaccinate all incoming animals to protect the safety and health of our shelter animals and staff. We vaccinate all pets on the 4th day of their stray hold.

    PAWS will offer medical care to pets if we determine it is necessary to prevent suffering. If an animal is picked up by an owner after medical care has been delivered, owners will be charged $35/night plus the total amount of the vet bill.

  • Yes, examples of proof of ownership include:

    • Microchip Registration

    • Tags - if pet comes in with a tag with their owner's number on the tag

    • Vet Records with animal age and description

    • Dog License Registration

    • Current photos of the animal with their owner

    • Adoption Information

Need help with a vet bill? PAWS offers a grant program known as MedFund to help locals and their pets with financial assistance.
